Bars, Lounges, Republic Blog

Capitol City describes itself as L.A.’s  First Upscale Sports Bar and Lounge.  I guess that’s a good description but I don’t remember seeing any sports on the plethora of big tv screens. There were music videos though.

So let me try to explain the set up.  You enter from Caheunga Blvd into a decedent sized space with the bar on the right and booths for bottle service on the left.  When facing the bar there is a door to a patio with seating.  To the left is another decent sized room which leads to a back patio.  There is also an upstairs (VIP area).  Ok aside from that break down, I can only speak for the Friday nite event that I attended.  There was a bunch of stuff going on, NFL Party – Friday night promotion by Darran Matthews –  few birthday parties.  There were two DJs one providing music inside and one for the outside back patio.  The music was hip-hop/top 40s.  Not much room to dance on the “dance floor” in the second room, but there is more space in the back patio.  Decent drinks for about $12 each…nice bartenders who managed to smile even though they were overwhelmed…there was a considerable wait for drinks unless you were seated right in front of the bar (which I was).  So I grubbed…and yes I was the only person sitting at the bar grubbing…I had the calamari and the sweet potato fries which were pretty good.  Actually no lie, the sweet potato fries were excellent.  The portions were huge so my cousin and I couldn’t finish them, but even cold the sweet potato fries were yummy!  Did I take any pics?  Of course not! J  I’ll work on that with my next review.

You want a good place to chill, I suggest Capitol City on a Friday night for Darran Matthew’s event.  It did get crowded though so if you want a seat on the patio or a guaranteed seat inside, get there early or do dinner/bottle service.  Otherwise, just go and chill.
